Columnists Obama, Fannie and Freddie by Bruce Ash (A special and timely piece by our good friend.) Many investors are nervous because of the current uncertainty in the stock market, and the general lack of liquidity in the financial markets. Now, however, is NOT the time to sell. There are some unique buying opportunities in a market that has lost 20% of its value. If you can avoid the herd mentality fueled by the same type of speculation that caused this crisis, there are good profits to be gained in the future - if you are prudent and patient. The American economy is still the strongest in the world. Success from Wall Street to Main Street, however, may have something to do with who is elected President in 2008. The argument put forth by the Obama campaign and his media minions is that John McCain and the GOP have caused the decline in the economy and the stock market. Their endless "blame Bush" mantra seems to apply here. They want you to forget that lower incremental tax rates for individuals and businesses, as advocated by the GOP, have increased revenues to the Treasury dramatically since 2003, and are a worldwide example of successful tax policy. More Seeking clarity over hyperbole (Emil Franzi offers his take on this year’s ballot propositions.) by Emil FranziPROP 100 - PROTECT OUR HOMES Soccer sends kids like Brianna Caceres to college, so it can't be all bad by Tom Danehy Being a self-respecting American sports fan, I pretty much have nothing but sneering derision for soccer, especially the international variety, where the only scoring that is done is accomplished with a piece of masonry thrown at the referee's head by some peasant in the stands. (I wondered why, when I accidentally turned on a World Cup soccer game--presumably the most important game in the world--there was only one ref. Now I know that they started with three, but the fans--many of whom should be in prison--took out the other two with well-aimed bricks.)I've lost count: This is either the fifth or sixth decade in which it has been proclaimed that soccer is the next big thing in America. It obviously isn't going to happen, but that doesn't mean that we can't be gracious about it. There are a couple of good things about soccer. More Say It Ain’t So, Sarah by Mike Tully Please. You ask Senator Biden if you can call him “Joe’ (he says yes) and then you spring an ill-timed “say it ain’t so, Joe” line on him when it made no logical sense. Don’t you have any sense? Is there no room for subtlety in the Republican dialectic? Do you have to be so obvious? That was not a “gotcha” as much as it was a “surr-prise!” You asked his permission to address him by his informal first name, then used that permission against him. That was low class-- really low class. Besides, was it smart to invoke the memory of Shoeless Joe Jackson on a day the White Sox lost a playoff game? Kiss Chicago goodbye, Governor. More
Obama's
Campaign Thugs by Jonathan Hoffman ho would have thought that, in our lifetime, [they] would openly take sides in a campaign as public officials? More Sweden by Bruce Ash With liberal Sweden advocating many new tax
policies that reduce tax burden on their citizens perhaps Senator
Obama ought to think about how real progressive policy makers use
taxes to bolster the economy . Bruce has a couple of great videos on his site...click here to watch them. More If you'd like to listen to Bruce's broadcasts, click here.
